Creating Health: A Sense of Purpose

One of the four strategic goals of our organisation is ‘Creating Health’.

This idea of continually improving and eliminating unfair gaps in health and wellbeing by working with communities and our partners and modelling the health-enabling behaviours we want to see in our communities, is fundamental to our sense of purpose and approach to ‘Creating Health’.

Whether you’re a doctor, a nurse, a porter, a manager, a healthcare support worker or an administrator, as you make contact daily with people from our communities – some of whom will be patients and some, not – you have a unique opportunity to be an agent of change. You can be an agent of the values of listening, learning, improving, teamwork and respect that CTM embodies. These values and the behaviours are fundamental to our goal of ‘Creating Health’ and also the values that would resonate strongly with people like you who care genuinely for the communities we serve.

Our public health services lead with the entire health board in promoting both physical and mental health and wellbeing, tackling both the causes of ill-health – such as smoking, alcohol misuse, poor diets and low physical activity – and the causes of those causes – principally poverty and adverse childhood experiences. Our screening and immunisations services go a long way to prevent disease in our communities. Our treatment services – whether in primary, secondary or community care – ensure that when people need healthcare, they can access safe, efficient, effective, patient-centred, timely and equitable care. When people need rehabilitation after acute care – very important in respect of key conditions like stroke and long COVID – our rehabilitation services are at hand. Ultimately, when all the above fail and death is inevitable, we are keen to ensure people experience end of life in a dignified way. One key deduction from this is that ‘Creating Health’ is very much at the basis of everything that we do in the Health Board.

If you’re one of those people with whom these ambitions and values resonate, come and join us – we and our communities and partners are onto something remarkable here in CTM and you can be part of that story.
